Mariama is a very joyful young girl. Picking up Mariama from her village of Kumala, she was quiet and frail. Later when she was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, we learned what was causing her distress. Several years later and after lots of medical treatment, Mariama is strong and healthy. She is playful and never fails to make her sisters laugh. Mariama’s biological sister, Finah, is also a part of MamaLand. Mariama and Finah have always been close and it is sweet to see them grow up together. Mariama is in Class 2 at CRC where she is working hard on her reading and math skills. Mariama says she wants to be a teacher or a nurse when she grows up.
